A guided walking holiday in the Alpujarras and Sierra Nevada National Park.
16 – 23 February 2019
About the holiday
February is a wonderful time to walk in this area: the high mountain peaks glisten with caps of snow, and skies are the purest blue. Lower down there are almond orchards in full bloom trumpeting that spring is here, whilst the tang of woodsmoke reaches you from village firesides. It’s warm during the day and crisp at night and it doesn’t get dark until 7 o’clock.
Your guides include Chris Stewart (author of Driving over Lemons) who will lead you on walks through almond orchards in full flower, and more walks through woodlands and meadows to gaze at the snow-capped mountains and the deep gorges for which the Alpujarra is famous.
Your guides also include experts from Spanish Highs, one of the most experienced guiding companies in the area. Plus Anne, owner of the accommodation, herself a keen walker with stories to tell about getting out of London and setting up a guest house in Spain's most remote and beautiful mountains.
The week includes a day's snow-shoeing in the high mountains (no matter if you've never done it before - it's easy to master and great fun, and all equipment is provided). There's also a day's walking down on the Mediterranean coast with lunch on the beach, and other walks exploring the dramatic valleys and white villages of this unspoilt region.
After a day’s walking return to Casa Ana for mulled wine and roasted chestnuts by the wood-burning stove whilst your chef for the week prepares delicious dinners.
