Walking holidays

Walking in the Sierra Nevada Mountains

Las Alpujarras, the name given to the southern slopes of the Sierra Nevada mountains, is a real haven for walkers. The area is famous for its miles and miles of paths and tracks, fascinating and abundant flora and fauna, traditional white villages and stunning views.

We provide accommodation and meals, and information, maps, books and advice - in fact everything you need to know for self-guided or guided walks. There are many walks, both gentle and challenging, straight from the door of the house, and the big hikes into the mountains begin just a short drive away.

"Thank you for our wonderful stay. We had a superb time learning about the Alpujarra and it was a fabulous place to walk, look at the flowers and wildlife, and enjoy the vistas."
Alison & Mike Uren, May 2009

Creative Writing Retreat on the Era at Ferreirola in Las Alpujarras

"Casa Ana, set in a small village in the Alpujarras of southern Spain … is a beautiful house, overlooking a valley, just over an hour from Granada. The first thing you’ll notice is the quiet. Listen from one of the terraces. A dog barking in the next village; a church bell carrying on the clear air. Casa Ana is a place given to silence. Whether you’re sitting in one of the rooms or outside, the place is simply conducive to work. It is a retreat that writers need to know about.”
Gary McKeone, Former Literature Director, Arts Council of England

"From a session leader’s point of view there are many reasons why Casa Ana is an ideal place to bring a group. Here are just a few:

"It’s spacious, which people appreciate. There’s room to take yourself off and work, room to come together and play, room to hide away and think. There’s an enormous great mountain to stare at when you want to feel profound, and a quiet mysterious landscape to wander in when you want to dream.

"The various terraces provide a good variety of spaces in which to run different kinds of workshop activities. The garden terrace is ideal for a morning session watching the sunrise (the sun comes round the mountain at a respectable hour, even in high summer). There are also plenty of places to work out in the landscape – all within easy walking distance of the centre (so no need for carefully worded warnings about 'a reasonable level of fitness' being required).

"Everyone who has been on my sessions loves Casa Ana. They rave about the food. They find the accommodation comfortable and cosy. They love the views, they enjoy the walks, and they are enchanted by the location. I’m sure you’ll feel the same.”

"Peaceful and inspiring, Casa Ana is the perfect place to get away from it all. I wrote nine chapters of my book in just six days – my most productive week ever."

Painting and photography

Sierra Nevada backdrop to personal development in Southern Spain

"At Casa Ana, there are tables, chairs and shady spots to relax and work on your art. Outside the house there is a wealth of interesting subject matter in the village of Ferreirola, while a short walk will take you to the spectacular gorge of the Rio Trevelez. Here, there are painting possibilities that range from colourful wild flowers to olive groves and herds of goats, all surrounded by the crags and peaks of the Sierra Nevada. Added to this is the sense of a truly spiritual place, where your artistic talents can be nurtured and nourished, in a comfortable and supportive environment.”
Stephen Martyn, Artist and Tutor, Norfolk

Bring your own group for a painting or photography holiday. Alternatively, courses are provided for groups staying one week or more. Contact Anne at Casa Ana for details.

Yoga, tai chi and meditation

The beautiful spaces for group work, the terraces and garden, the peace and tranquillity and the inspiring mountain setting make Casa Ana an ideal place for running yoga, tai chi or meditation retreats. A day begins with practice on the terrace as the sun rises over the mountains. Healthy, delicious meals, clean air, water from a mountain spring and no sound but the birds and the goatbells in the valley give an unforgettable experience of wellness and peace.

"Casa Ana is the perfect place for a yoga & meditation retreat.... the moment you step into these beautiful surroundings you can feel the stress of every day life melting away and a new energy forming… Rest, Relax and Rejuvenate are the words that come to mind as soon as you walk through the doors.”
Lyn Agan, Yoga Teacher, Orgiva

Personal and professional development

The sitting room for group retreats and workshops in Spain

Casa Ana is ideally suited for workshops, team-building weeks, corporate or life-coaching retreats for small groups requiring high quality accommodation in an intimate and peaceful setting.

The workshop space at Casa Ana is pleasant, quiet, well furnished and well maintained. The large, airy room can be set out conference-style, or furnished with easy chairs or left empty to accommodate the needs of your group.

The guest rooms are comfortable and stylish, the Mediterranean-style meals excellent and the entire property with its garden, terraces and mountain views provides an oasis of tranquillity - far, far from the stresses of everyday life.

"Casa Ana is located in a lovely quiet no-through-road village which is perfect for creating a supportive space for workshops. Beautifully renovated in a traditional and welcoming style the facilities lend themselves to groups and the added bonus of being just the right size so that we can take over the whole house gives the feeling of exclusivity.

"Anne has been incredibly helpful in supporting us to bring our coaching holiday to the Alpujarras. Moving an already established course to a new location can be tricky – trying to find alternative activities that suit the course was one of our challenges as well as ensuring that the essence of the course stayed the same. Anne made sure that we had all that we needed, found local suppliers for us and generally smoothed the way so that we could make the transition. I feel that Casa Ana is a great venue for any professional or personal development workshop.
