Bedroom overlooking the garden at Casa Ana B&B, Andalucia

Accommodation: The accommodation at Casa Ana is arranged around a small, secluded courtyard, and includes the Main House and its stables and outbuildings which the present owner has recently renovated to a high standard.

Throughout the property you’ll see the original chestnut beams, many old doors and 2ft thick stone walls. All the floors have natural terracotta tiles, scattered with rugs. Modern comforts such as underfloor heating and new bathrooms with rain showers have been sensitively incorporated so that Casa Ana retains the look and feel of a very old and beautiful house.

Garden and views: Outside the house there are four south-facing garden terraces on different levels, linked by stone steps and paths, and a secluded walled garden on the west side of the house. All have seating areas and flower beds and offer spectacular views of the mountains and the Trevelez river gorge.

The Alpujarras area: The Alpujarras is a stunningly beautiful mountain area on the southern slopes of the Sierra Nevada range in Andalucia. It is situated about 70 minutes drive south from the historic city of Granada, and the same distance north of the Mediterranean sea. Apart from its beauty, the area is famous for its white villages clinging precariously to the mountainsides, for its Moorish history, and for its enormous variety of flora and fauna. The area surely has one of the best climates in Europe and is perfect to visit at any time of year.

Activities: At Casa Ana you can relax and unwind in these peaceful and beautiful surroundings, bask in the sun, read a good book or listen to goat bells and the murmur of the river below the house. You can go walking, horseriding or mountain biking along the miles and miles of paths that criss-cross the Alpujarras. The area is ideal for painting, photography, butterfly- or bird-watching and many other activities.

Excursions: You can explore the picturesque local villages with their craft shops, bars and restaurants, steeped in ancient Moorish culture and history. The historic city of Granada with its fabled Alhambra palace and Arab baths is just over an hour’s drive away, and if you’d like a day of swimming and basking in the sun the nearest Mediterranean beaches are only 70 minutes drive. From November to April the Sierra Nevada mountain ski station is open, a couple of hours away.

Access to Casa Ana:Casa Ana is located on the edge of the tiny hamlet of Ferreirola, one of the prettiest and most unspoilt of the Alpujarra white villages. Getting there is straightforward: Granada and Malaga airports are within easy reach, and there is a good road into the village.

Prices, booking conditions and contact details: Prices start at €32.50 per person per night with substantial discounts for week-long stays.

"Staying in Casa Ana was a delight. The high valley landscape is beautiful: open and secluded, stimulating and restful" Patricia Potts, 2006
